Berlin, Germany

A honeymoon in Europe often entails a trip to the usual suspects of Paris, Venice and Rome, all quintessentially beautiful and romantic in their own right. But should you seek the same charm of Europe clothed in modernity, Berlin is where you should head to.

The ultra-luxe, historic Hotel Adlon Kempinski is a perfect representation of Berlin, blending the old with new. Located in the heart of Unter den Linden, a boulevard in the city centre, the hotel keeps you literally a hop from the famous Brandenburg Gate (one of the city’s main symbols), with some rooms offering a magnifi cent view of it. Other historical landmarks within a fi ve-minute walk include the Reichstag, the historic parliament house, and Holocaust Memorial Monument.

Foodies will love that the hotel’s two restaurants are famous in Berlin; Restaurant Quarre is well known for its Sunday brunch and sits you next to the Brandenburg Gate, while Lorenz Adlon is a famed Michelin-starred establishment. Both built for intimate conversations, it’s the perfect setting for romance.

A walk back in time
There is much to discover in Berlin. You will be spoilt for choice with more than 170 museums to choose from. One recommendation is to walk to Museum Island, where some of the best are found.

Nearby, you will also fi nd remnants of the Berlin wall and Checkpoint Charlie Museum, which offers a look back at the once-divided city. Once you’re ready to enjoy modern Berlin, whizz over to Potsdamer Platz, where tall skyscrapers underline the city’s strength, or settle for a quaint picnic at nearby Tiergarten, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics must make a beeline for KaDeWe, Europe’s largest, seven-storey department store.
