WHEN Dec 12-13, 2009
WHERE Solemnisation at Bedok Methodist Church, intimate dinner party at Overeasy at One Fullerton, and lunch banquet at Conrad Centennial.
COURTSHIP They met in church when they were just teenagers, but only began dating in 2004 after he returned from his studies in Michigan, US, and she was in her final year at the National University of Singapore.
PROPOSAL Back in December 2006, TK had arranged a weekend getaway at Scarlett Hotel to celebrate Melissa’s birthday and their courtship anniversary. After dinner at the rooftop restaurant, he presented her with her birthday gift, which she assumed was a Chanel necklace she had been eyeing. Instead, it was the proposal ring. This was followed by another surprise the following day: Upon returning to their hotel room after a salsa class, she was greeted by her close friends who were there to celebrate the joyous occasion.
MAIN EVENT The highlight of their wedding was the hip-hop-themed dinner party, Ghetto Lovin, held at chic eatery Overeasy. “We really wanted to be able to spend time celebrating and having fun with our close friends, so we organised a do for about 60 of them. It was important to us that they had lots of fun and drinks, and there would be time for us to mingle with everyone,” says Melissa.
The couple worked with Jonathan Goh of Wedding Acts to set up a blinged-out bash like no other. The decor featured the main colours of black and purple, a red carpet photo wall, and special ghetto-themed dinner place mats that had one or two ghetto slang phrases, their meanings and how to use them. Instead of being numbered, the tables were named after hip hop stars like P Diddy, with specially designed place cards for each guest.
